May 13 in words - Roundabouts and Tunnels

Today was a travel day. We took the scenic route from Nieppe, France to Honselersdijk, Netherlands. Roughly 300 kms and 6 hours (with stops).

After saying our goodbyes and a quick stop at the grocery store we ended up hitting the road around 11. Again, we had no GPS for the first bit so we were travelling a bit blind. I had printed instructions from Google but a map (here’s the link to the map) would have been nice. Once we made it into Belgium we were able to use the GPS again. We decided to take a more western route so that we could drive through/over (? – not sure what the right word is) the Delta Works. I just learned that it has been declared on the Seven Wonders of the Modern World! It’s a series of dams, locks, storm surge barriers and dykes.

The drive itself was a series of highways, country roads, roundabouts (I wish I had kept count!), tunnels (the longest one being 6 kms) and of course small town roads. We stopped several times to get a closer look at the wind turbines and the North Sea. It was rather cold and windy but somehow that added to the thrill. The AirBnB is another lovely place. It’s in the middle of the greenhouse district so we are surrounded by canals and greenhouses. Once we got settled, we couldn’t help ourselves and headed back to the coast for a walk along the beach. I think we will like it here.
