Delft

Today we biked to Delft. Roughly 13kms, one-way. We have a biking app and it took us through some great back routes that we never would have found on our own. We got to see all sorts of interesting neighbourhoods and lots of interesting birds in the fields – I think we saw pheasants but they were camera shy. We definitely heard peacocks and many others that I unfortunately can’t name. The highlight for me was biking under the motorway, beside a canal – the canal was about midway our height. This was kind of cool on it’s own but then there was a Heron sitting on the edge of the canal.  And then all of a sudden we were in Delft. We visited the old church first and then headed over to the New church. “New” is all relative – it was built in 1496. You can climb up the tower of the New church. “The tower has 376 steps and reaches a height of 85 metres”. It’s rather narrow and goes up in a tight spiral. I am just glad that there weren’t too many other people trying to climb it as well. The views from the top were amazing.
Our entrance ticket got us a free coffee at a local shop so we indulged and at the same time enjoyed some people watching. There was a wedding at City Hall, which is right across from the new church so there was lots of interesting people to watch! We explored Delft a little bit more and found our way to the Delft University of Technology before winding our way back home.
