Drenthe

What a special day today was. My aunt and cousin drove us to all sorts of interesting corners of the area. But also, just the company was a lot of fun and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

First stop was in Yde at a niece of my Aunt's where they are taking care of some gorgeous owls!

We made a special detour just because of funny town names - this translates to Dead Still

Then we went to the Noordpolderzijl - zijl (sluice) in the dyke of the North Polder. Polder is a low-lying tract of land enclosed by dikes. On the other side of the dyke is the harbour of Noordpolderzijl, which is the smallest seaport in the Netherlands.

There is an old pub at the sluice called 't Zielhoes

Then we went to The Menkemaborg (borg = castle) in the village of Uithuizen
